Abstract

In this research, it is aimed to examine the quota and application cases of 2017 for the undergraduate, associate and college education which is an important step of tourism education in Turkey and to make inferences about the future of tourism education in Turkey. In accordance with this purpose, the related tourism programs are examined in the table of 2017-ÖSYS Placement Results announced by OSYM. As a result of the examinations, the quotas for tourism programs and the number of students who settled in these quotas are evaluated on the basis of departments. According to the evaluations, the quotas of tourism programs are determined to be empty in serious condition. A large part of the remaining quota are made up of “Tourism Management”, “Tourism and Hotel”, “Tourism and Hotel Management”, “Travel Management”, “Travel Management and Tourism Guide”, “Food and Beverage Management”, “Accommodation Management” which accept students with TM-1 score type and “Tourism and Hotel Management”, “Health Tourism Management” which accept students with YGS-6 score type. The results show that students are far from choosing to “management” departments. Moreover, Moreover, the fact that the evening educations in many departments are not preferred also allowed the quotas to remain empty. The closure of non-preferred evening educations and the preservation of the tourism departments in the needed provinces will ensure efficient and effective use of the quotas.
