Author Guidelines

Journal of Tourism and Gastronomy Studies (JOTAGS) is a quarterly, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that publishes original research articles in the fields of tourism, gastronomy, and related disciplines. The journal employs a double-blind peer-review process to ensure academic quality and integrity.

Originality and Submission Conditions

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions that do not comply with these conditions will not be considered for review.

All manuscripts are subject to an initial editorial screening to assess their relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, academic quality, ethical compliance, and adherence to formatting requirements.

Peer-Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JOTAGS undergo a rigorous and transparent double-blind peer-review process to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, each manuscript is first evaluated by the editorial team to determine its suitability for the journal’s scope, compliance with author guidelines, originality, and adherence to ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected at this stage without external review.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the field. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the process to ensure objectivity and impartiality.

3. Review Criteria

Reviewers are requested to evaluate manuscripts based on the following:

  • Originality and contribution to the field,
  • Theoretical and methodological rigor,
  • Clarity of presentation and structure,
  • Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope,
  • Ethical compliance, where applicable.

4. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor may decide that a manuscript is:

  • Accepted,
  • Accepted subject to minor revisions,
  • Accepted subject to major revisions,
  • Returned for resubmission with substantial revisions, or
  • Rejected.

The final decision rests with the Editor, who considers reviewers’ recommendations alongside the journal’s editorial standards.

5. Revision Process

When revisions are requested, authors are expected to address reviewers’ comments in detail and submit a revised manuscript along with a "response to reviewers" document. Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by the same reviewers to ensure all requested changes have been adequately addressed.

6. Ethical Oversight and Confidentiality

All stages of the peer-review process are conducted in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Reviewers and editors are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest and maintain strict confidentiality throughout the review process.

Manuscript Preparation, Length, and Template Requirement

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JOTAGS manuscript template. Formatting requirements are as follows:

  • Font: Times New Roman (mandatory), 12-point.
  • Line spacing: 1.5.
  • Length: 6,000 to 9,000 words (including references, tables, and figures).

Abstract and Extended English Summary

For manuscripts written in Turkish, authors are required to provide a minimum 1,000-word extended summary in English. This summary should comprehensively reflect the study’s background, objectives, methodology, key findings, and implications.

JEL Classification Codes

Each manuscript must include at least one and no more than three JEL classification codes (e.g., Q11). Official codes can be found at: AEA JEL Codes.

Style and Referencing

All manuscripts must be prepared in strict accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition.
