Abstract

Overtourism is a concept that has been emphasized in international literature in recent years and is associated with topics such as sustainable tourism, carrying capacity, crowd perception and tourism-phobia. This concept refers to a situation that both negatively affects the quality of life of the local people and gives dissatisfaction to the visitors when the carrying capacity is exceeded in a destination. In the national literature, the Turkish version of the concept, which has been investigated by several studies, has not been determined exactly. The aim of this study is to determine the Turkish equivalent of the concept of overtourism and to gain a common term for the studies to be conducted. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire by face-to-face interviews with tourism academics and English-language academiscs. According to the results of the research, it has been understood that the most suitable Turkish equivalent for the concept of overtourism is “aşırı turizm”.
