Determination of Tourism Destination Value Criteria for the Cities in Turkey and Destination Image

The aim of this study is to put forward tourism destination value criterions for cities
selected in the scope of the work. In this context, a survey was carried out through using
face-to-face interview method with tourism professionals living in that area. With the
work performed, significance level of the attractions of the selected cities which can be
effective to be perceived as tourism destination has been questioned. In addition,
significance level of attractions of the regions where participants’ businesses located
which may be effective in the perception as a tourism destination has been tried to define.
The obtained data were evaluated using the SPSS package program, and three attractions
of each province discussed in the scope of the study have been determined in terms of
having tourism destination value.
The study, aiming to determine tourism destination value criterions of top ten cities
coming forward with tourism appeal in Turkey, covers the views of administrators of
sespecictor business’ and civil society organizations. In the study, while cities with highest
tourism destination value are being enumerated as Istanbul, Balıkesir and Antalya; in these
cities, offering yearlong tourism services, historical richness and having qualified tourism
businesses criteria of these cities are seen their decisive criteria to become tourism
destination..
