Sosyal Medyada “Overtourism” Etiketi ile Yapılan Paylaşımların İncelenmesi: Twitter Örneği (Examining of Sharings on Social Media with the Tag "Overtourism": Case of Twitter)

Overtourism, which has been one of the issues that has occupied world tourism in recent years, is an excessive tourist crowd that emerges as a result of the tourist hosting far above the tourist carrying capacity that a destination can handle. Overtourism is a phenomenon that threatens world-famous popular destinations in terms of sustainability and affects the daily lives of local people living in tourism regions, both socially and economically. Overtourism has a number of adverse effects not only for local residents but also for tourists that cause overcrowding. Overtourism is the overcrowding of people, which arises from the fact that a tourist destination can accommodate tourists far beyond its carrying capacity. In this study, comments shared on Twitter with the tag "#overtourism" are examined and classified according to certain themes. The aim of the study is to reveal the perspectives of Twitter users towards overtourism. For this purpose, comments shared between June and October in 2019 with the tag "#overtourism" in Twitter were made content analysis and classified according to themes. All sharings with the tag #overtourism in Twitter constitute the population of study. The sample consists of 110 comments shared between these dates. 123 coding made with the data obtained; It is classified in 3 categories as ‘Destinations Effected By Overtourism, Negative Effects Of Overtourism And Others. As a result of research, it’s shown that 27 different cities form 22 different countries were exposed to overtourism, and the reasons of overtourism are Airbnb, social media, density of tour buses, mass tourism, lack of planning, cruise traffic and ease of transportation.
