Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, eğitimli kadın iş gücünün turizm sektörünü bırakma nedenlerini detaylı şekilde tartışmaktır. Bu bağlamda, nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak turizmden farklı bir alanda kariyer yapmayı seçen 12 kadından veri toplanmıştır. Cevaplar içerik analizi yoluyla üç ana kategori altında irdelenmiştir: (1) mesleki beklentilerin karşılanmaması, (2) cinsiyetçi yaklaşım ve (3) değerli hissetme arzusu. Bulgulara göre katılımcılar; özellikle yönetici kademelerinde temsil edilme oranlarının turizm sektöründe düşük olduğunu, idari yeteneklerinin küçümsendiğini, cinsiyete dayalı farklı maaş politikalarının uygulandığını, istihdam edilme olanaklarının eğitimsel ve mesleki yeterliliklerinden ziyade kişisel niteliklerine göre (medeni durum ve görünüş gibi) şekillendiğini düşünmektedir. Yine profesyonelliğin ve sistematik bir işleyişin olmayışı, performansın finansal çıktıların büyüklüğüne göre değerlendirilmesi, egoist yönetici davranışları, iletişim sürecinde karşılaşılan kaba üslup, mükemmeliyetçilik nedeniyle hata yapma korkusunu artıran baskıcı yapılar ve en önemlisi de psikolojik-fiziksel tacizler katılımcıların turizm sektöründen ayrılma niyetini artıran kritik faktörler arasındadır.
