Abstract

The aim of this study is to make an assessment viewers’ attitudes and beliefs about popular television cooking programs and celebrity chefs. The universe of this research consists of male and female viewers older than 18 years who watch television cooking programs and famous chefs. The e-questionnaire (Villani and others, 2015) was applied to 196 people who were cooking program viewers. As a result of the analysis, it was found that 52.1 % of the participants watch television cooking programs in order to gain more information about recipes and cooking methods. 22.7% of the participants stated that they made recipes from television cooking programs in order to improve their cooking skills. At the same rate, participants (22.7%) reported that they never used any recipe from a television cooking program. Some of the participants (26.3%) stated that famous chefs did not offer nutrition and diet suggestions in their programs. Most of the participants (49 %) thought that celebrity chefs were qualified. 37.6% of the respondents believed these programs have no impact on their habitual diet. In the light of the findings, recommendations have been brought to the attention of future implementers and researchers.
