Covid-19 Pandemisinin Dünya ve Türkiye Kongre Turizmi Gelirlerine Etkisinin Değerlendirilmesi (Evaluation of the Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Revenues of Congress Tourism in the World and Turkey)

Abstract

Covid-19, which emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019, was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. The tourism sector is among the sectors most affected by the pandemic. It is thought that congress tourism will be one of the tourism types most affected by the pandemic. This study is important in terms of showing the financial losses caused by the pandemic in the tourism sector and showing the measures that can be taken against it. For this reason, in this study, which consists of 4 parts, it is aimed to reveal how much the pandemic affects congress tourism revenues and to determine what kind of loss will be experienced in terms of congress tourism revenues of Turkey and the countries that are in the top 10 in congress tourism worldwide in 2018. In 2020, due to the pandemic, an estimated 5 billion 582 million dollars to be obtained from congress tourism worldwide, and 56 million dollars in Turkey could not be obtained due to the absence of congresses. Congresses can be held again by taking the necessary precautions against the transmission of the Covid-19 virus and only by allowing the vaccinated participants. In this way, congress tourism can be mobilized and incomes can be returned to its former level.
