Keywords:
Rural tourism, Sustainability, Local resource utilizationAbstract
Rural tourism enterprises are an important element of "sustainable rural development" with the vitality they provide for the local economy as well as being motivation to sustain the cultural values and protecting the natural environment. The economic activity in rural areas can be achieved not only by calling cash from outside sources to existing local capital, but also by preventing this cash from going out of the local economy due to outsourcing. In this study, the effects of the rural tourism enterprises on the local economy were pointed out, which were taken up in terms of local resource utilization rates. Face to face interviews and participatory observation techniques were used in the study with three ecotourism enterprises’ managers operating in Harmancık, Iznik and Keles districts of Bursa. By this study, it has been reached the result that the level of local resource utilization of rural tourism enterprises with local advantages and potentials is not at the desired level. In the conclusion of the study, suggestions were developed in order to improve the role of rural tourism facilities so as to achieve rural development goals.
