Abstract

The growing trend of spending more time indoors, commercializing outdoor activities, and the desire for safety and predictability have all contributed to an increasing interest in indoor recreation. This interest has led many organizations and academic circles to recognize the importance of examining the positive and negative aspects of indoor recreation as well as strategies for overcoming obstacles to participation. This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of indoor recreation, its advantages and disadvantages, and strategies for overcoming constraints. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used for the study design, with criterion sampling and inductive content analysis performed on data collected from 57 Generation Z university students. The study found that the characteristics of indoor recreation can be classified as either positive (wellness and identification) or negative (non-wellness), whereas motivations for participation can be categorized as either intrinsic or extrinsic. The constraints on participation were classified as internal, interpersonal, or structural.
