Abstract

Work performance is a qualitative and quantitative representation of an employee’s level of achievement on targeted goals. Particularly in labor intensive tourism establishments, work performance is highly important to have sustainable competitive advantage and maintain presence. Organizational citizenship behavior which refers to employees’ effective and productive ways of working voluntarily, has positive effects on organizational outputs. In tourism sector which is highly competitive, it is important to identify behaviors and outputs that would help the organization to be distinguished from other organizations. Thus, this study examines the effects of organizational citizenship behaviors of employees in tourism and hotel establishments on work performance. This study aims to contribute to the body of knowledge by using organizational citizenship behavior and work performance variables. The current study was conducted with 237 employees from 4-star hotels in the city of Sivas. The data were collected with a survey instrument. Data analysis revealed a relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and work performance. It was also found that the dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior affect work performance positively.
