Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in comments to the editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the author guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Journal of Tourism and Gastronomy Studies (JOTAGS) is a quarterly, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that publishes original research articles in the fields of tourism, gastronomy, and related disciplines. The journal employs a double-blind peer-review process to ensure academic quality and integrity.

Originality and Submission Conditions

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions that do not comply with these conditions will not be considered for review.

All manuscripts are subject to an initial editorial screening to assess their relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, academic quality, ethical compliance, and adherence to formatting requirements.

Peer-Review Process

Manuscripts deemed suitable after the initial editorial assessment are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers through a double-blind peer-review process. Based on reviewers’ recommendations, manuscripts may be: Accepted; Accepted subject to minor or major revisions; Returned for resubmission with substantial revisions; or Rejected.

Manuscript Preparation, Length, and Template Requirement

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JOTAGS manuscript template. Formatting requirements are as follows:

  • Font: Times New Roman (mandatory), 12-point.
  • Line spacing: 1.5.
  • Length: 6,000 to 9,000 words (including references, tables, and figures).

Abstract and Extended English Summary

For manuscripts written in Turkish, authors are required to provide a minimum 1,000-word extended summary in English. This summary should comprehensively reflect the study’s background, objectives, methodology, key findings, and implications.

JEL Classification Codes

Each manuscript must include at least one and no more than three JEL classification codes (e.g., Q11). Official codes can be found at: AEA JEL Codes.

Style and Referencing

All manuscripts must be prepared in strict accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition.

Copyright and Licensing

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source.

Publishing Timeline

  • Time to first decision: 7-15 days
  • Review time: 45-90 days
  • Submission to acceptance: 15 days
  • Acceptance to publishing: 10 days
