Öz

Kitap ve film formatlarındaki Marslı’ya dair literatürde pek çok araştırma bulunmasına rağmen gastronomi disiplini bağlamında bir araştırmaya rastlanılmamıştır. Bu sebeple anlatının merkezinde yer alan gastronomik bir unsur olarak patatesin film formatındaki Marslı’da kullanımının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda nitel araştırma yöntemi ve fenomenolojik araştırma deseni benimsenmiş olup veri analizinde betimsel analiz ve göstergebilim analizi kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak patates, en basit anlamıyla hayatta kalma ile özdeşleşirken, göstergebilim analizi sonucunda, tarihsel bağlamda gıda dışı kullanımlarında olduğu gibi, ağırlıklı olarak olumsuz içeriğe sahip çeşitli anlamlara işaret etmektedir.
