A Research on Gastronomy Tourism in Destination İzmir

Abstract

The substantial progress in technology has enabled interaction among different cultures, accelerated sharing of information, and raised interest in different types of tourism which one of them is gastronomy tourism. Especially today, individuals have become more conscious in healthy nutrition, where healthy as well as environment friendly food have become more popular. This trend in gastronomy can also be observed in tourism
intensively. This study aims to evaluate gastronomy tourism in İzmir as to what extent it has been developed. In this regard, interviews through qualitative analysis are conducted with 16 experts in İzmir gastronomy and then content analysis is used to analyze the collected data. Data of the study are interpreted in terms of gastronomy and gastronomy tourism of destination İzmir in the findings section. Finally, managerial implications are offered in the conclusion section.
