Abstract

In recent years, health risks arising from reused cloth products have become a threat for the hospitality industry. The aim of study is to determine customers’ risk perceptions for reused cloth products. Survey technique was used as data collection tool. The data were collected from 368 customers staying in 20 different accommodation businesses operating in Bursa and Diyarbakır city centers. Frequency analysis, factor analysis and variance analysis were used for data analysis. Research results indicate that Turkish customers’ risk perception for reused cloth products differ according to destination, age, income level, accommodation experience and frequency of reusing these products. The survey results also show that majority of the customers have high level awareness for room cleaning. The sensitivities of Turkish customers regarding the change of sheets, covers and piques are very high, but they do not have the same sensitivity for changing reused towels. The study also developed recommendations to reduce the risks arising from reuse of these products in the hotels.
