The tourism sector stands out as one of the sectors that benefit most from the technological developments in the modern age. Smart tourism can be considered as a system that emerged with this technology-oriented process. The aim of this study is to compile and discuss the current literature on smart tourism as a current topic, to better understand the development in this field and to develop suggestions for future studies. In the study, bibliometric analysis of smart tourism literature was applied. As a result of the analysis of 143 articles published in Web of Science and Scopus databases until 2020, it was explored that there was an increase in studies on smart tourism after 2015, the most articles were published in the journal of “Sustainability” and empirical research types were used in most of the articles. However, some researchers emerge as the lead authors in the field, because of their conceptual contributions. The vast majority of the studies were carried out by co-authors. South Korea has been the country that produced the most articles on smart tourism. Additionally, it was evaluated that the studies mostly focused on the technological infrastructure of smart tourism. It has been observed that there are very few studies on social, cultural and physical environment issues.
