Yiyecek İçecek Müdürlerinin Kariyer Basamakları (Career Paths of Food and Beverage Managers)

This study, which aims to investigate the career paths of food and beverage managers in tourism and food beverage sectors, is a descriptive study. Purposive sampling method was used in the study and the sample of the research is food and beverage managers working in the hotel and other food and beverage enterprises located in Ankara. Data were collected by a questionnaire from face to face interviews with 125 food and beverage managers. The questionnaire consists of five sections; demographics, career progress, career length, career aspirations and managerial competencies. The study revealed that most of the food and beverage managers are male and have foreign language skills, average of working period before becoming a manager is thirteen years and food and beverage have been worked in six different businesses throughout their careers. In the tourism and food and beverage sectors, it is observed that the employees who do not have vocational training are employed in the sector and one third of the managers graduated from tourism vocational high school. There is a need for employment of graduates who have vocational education related to tourism and food and beverage at high school and higher education.
