The transformations observed at the global level, while manifesting in socio-cultural domains, also exert a significant influence on individuals’ dietary patterns. Emerging ethical and ecological sensitivities, differences in belief systems, intellectual currents, societal concerns, and other sociological factors contribute to shifts in food preferences. In parallel with these developments, dietary approaches that fall outside the cultural repertoire of individuals—and may therefore be characterized as non-traditional—have become increasingly widespread. The primary aim of this study is to examine the international literature on non-traditional dietary practices from a bibliometric perspective, thereby revealing the structural characteristics of academic production in this field. The dataset was compiled by surveying publications indexed in the Web of Science database under the categories of “Food Science & Technology” and “Nutrition and Dietetics,” focusing on works associated with the following terms: “Vegan,” “Vegetarian,” “Raw Food,” “Fruitarian,” “Pescatarian,” “Plant-Based Nutrition,” “Flexitarian,” “Functional Nutrition,” “Climatarian,” “Macrobiotic Nutrition,” and “Suprotarian.” The data were analyzed using bibliometric methods, encompassing author, citation, journal, country, institution, and keyword analyses. The analytical process was conducted with the support of the VOSviewer software. The findings indicate that the literature on veganism and vegetarianism exhibits a robust, extensive, and multi-centered academic structure, whereas flexitarianism, raw foodism, and other alternative dietary approaches remain comparatively underrepresented in the scholarly corpus.
