Abstract

Cultural heritage; It is all of the material and intangible cultural assets that communities have transferred from the past to the present, reflecting their knowledge, identities, beliefs, values and historical experiences. This study aims to examine how digital cultural heritage is represented in digital archives in Turkiye and what functions these representations undertake in terms of the sustainability of cultural memory. In the study, document analysis method was used within the framework of qualitative research design. Digital archives created by different institutions in Turkiye were examined by document analysis method; metadata areas, content structures, access policies and digital conservation approaches were evaluated from the perspective of cultural memory. The findings obtained in the study show that although the presentation of cultural heritage on digital platforms in Turkiye is technically good, its contextual and relational dimensions are limited in the digital environment. It also stated that digital archives in Turkiye have a great potential in terms of making digital cultural heritage elements visible; however, it reveals that this potential should be supported by relational, contextual and sustainable information networks. This study aims to provide a holistic evaluation by examining digital archives at the intersection of information management and cultural memory, going beyond just their technical dimension, and in this respect, it makes a unique contribution to the literature.
