Abstract

This study aims to adapt the Transformative Travel Experience Scale developed by Soulard et al. (2021) into Turkish. The scale was translated and its content validity was established through expert evaluations. Following item analyses, construct validity was examined using Exploratory Factor Analysis, and the model’s data fit was confirmed through Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The adapted version demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency, reliability, and convergent and discriminant validity. The findings indicated that the concept of the “Disorienting Dilemma,” originally included in the Western cultural context of the scale, lacks an equivalent meaning for Turkish travelers. This result supports the perspective that rational–cognitive processes dominant in Western cultures may not always be applicable in non-Western contexts. Measuring tourists’ transformative experiences with this adapted scale can offer valuable insights for the design and marketing of culturally sensitive tourism products and destinations. For future research, it is recommended that items addressing participants’ socio-cultural environments, affective processes, and implicit learning be incorporated into the scale.
