This study aims to examine the effects of food image and food neophilia-neophobia levels on food waste behavior among tourists who have had dining experiences in Istanbul. The sample of the study consists of 416 tourists who visited Istanbul. The model created specifically for the study was analyzed using AMOS software within the framework of structural equation modeling. The study findings confirmed that food image and food neophilia levels affect food waste. However, only a very limited effect at a marginal level of significance was found between food neophobia levels and food waste. These results reveal that individuals' perceptions of food and their openness to new foods may play a decisive role in wasteful behavior. This indicates the need to consider these psychological variables in the fight against food waste. The study aims not only to contribute theoretically to the academic literature but also to develop guiding recommendations for individuals, businesses, and scientific research.
