Abstract

Tourists' demands and expectations changed for various reasons, causing an increase in the demand for glamping facilities. Glamping facilities directly support the concept of sustainable tourism with their non-concretization and recycling architectural investments and various environmental practices. In this context, glamping facilities are accepted as important in terms of the continuity of tourism activities. The research aims to examine the contributions of glamping facilities and glamping architecture in İzmir to sustainable accommodation and to reveal the general and architectural works of the enterprises within the scope of sustainability. In this context, with the interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, interviews were conducted with 8 glamping facilities in İzmir. The obtained data were analyzed with MAXQDA qualitative analysis program and interpreted with content analysis. The most important findings from the study are that the facilities have sustainability efforts to protect and develop the environment, and at the same time, the operators also have individual environmental sensitivities. In addition, it has been found that glamping facilities are directly related to the concept of sustainability thanks to their architectural features, and the covid-19 pandemic has brought awareness to these facilities. It is foreseen that in future studies, urban or regional differences can be revealed, different sustainability practices can be reached, and the scope of the study can be expanded by choosing a specific region or facilities from Turkey.
